Block dry ice is characterized by high density, slow sublimation, and long cooling duration, making it a crucial refrigerant for cold-chain transportation and low-temperature preservation. An increasing number of companies are installing automated dry ice production lines to boost production capacity, reduce production costs, and ensure consistent dry ice quality.
Our automatic dry ice block machines use automatic compression molding of liquid CO₂, with hourly production capacities ranging from 120 to 500 kg. The dry ice conversion rate is≥43.5%, enabling the production of high-quality dry ice blocks with a density of 1450–1550 kg/m³ and supporting thickness adjustments from 10 to 70 mm. The equipment utilizes PLC-based intelligent control to ensure automatic block formation and stable operation, meeting the continuous production needs of enterprises of various scales.
Why Are Block Dry Ice Machines Popular?
For many companies, the real challenge in production is not whether they can produce dry ice, but rather production efficiency and operating costs. Traditional block-making equipment typically suffers from the following issues:
- CO₂ utilization rates are less than 40%, resulting in significant raw material waste and increased production costs over the long term.
- Equipment stability is insufficient, leading to frequent downtime or malfunctions that affect order fulfillment.
- Low automation levels, reliance on manual operation, and continuously rising labor costs.
- Fixed dry ice specifications, making it difficult to meet the diverse needs of different customers.
- Poor corrosion resistance, high long-term maintenance costs, and limited applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
As a result, an increasing number of companies are adopting automated block dry ice machines to improve production efficiency and reduce overall operating costs.

Main Applications of Dry Ice Block Machines
- Cold chain & food preservation: ideal for transporting seafood, meat, dairy products, and other temperature-sensitive goods.
- Medical & laboratory use: suitable for low-temperature storage and transportation of vaccines, biological samples, and reagents.
- Dry ice blasting: produces high-density dry ice blocks for cleaning molds, machinery, automotive parts, and food equipment.
- Stage & film effects: creates dense fog effects for weddings, stage performances, concerts, and film production.
- Dry ice production & supply: supports large-scale dry ice manufacturing for gas suppliers and commercial distributors.
Block Dry Ice Maker Key Profit Advantages
High Conversion Rate, Reduced CO₂ Consumption
Optimized hydraulic compression and cryogenic molding systems ensure a stable dry ice conversion rate of ≥43.5%. The same amount of liquid CO₂ can produce more dry ice, helping businesses reduce raw material procurement costs.
International-Brand Electrical Control System
This dry ice block machine adopts three top international brands for its electrical system to ensure stable operation in control, power distribution, and signal transmission:
- Siemens PLC & touch HMI: acts as the intelligent control core. It enables one-click adjustment of ice thickness, production time and extrusion pressure, delivering uniform dry ice blocks and lowering operation error. New operators can master it quickly.
- Schneider contactors & circuit breakers: reliable under frequent start-stop cycles. They protect motors against overload and short circuit, cutting maintenance costs and extending machine service life.
- Omron intermediate relays: ensure instant, precise signal delivery to synchronize feeding, compression, and ejection for consistent dry ice quality.

Automated Production Reduces Labor Requirements
PLC-based intelligent control manages the entire production process, with liquid CO₂ feeding, compression, molding, and demolding completed automatically. A single operator can manage multiple units.
Flexible Adjustment of Block Dry Ice Sizes
The standard dry ice size is 125 × 105 mm, with thickness freely adjustable between 10 and 70 mm. This meets the diverse needs of customers in cold chain logistics, industrial cleaning, food processing, and other sectors.
Food-Grade 304 Stainless Steel Housing
All components in contact with CO₂ are made of 304 stainless steel, which is corrosion-resistant and rust-resistant. This meets the hygiene and durability requirements of industries such as food and pharmaceuticals.
Multiple Models to Cover Different Production Scales
The dry ice block machine is available in various production capacities, including 100-1000 kg/h. It also supports customization of voltage, dimensions, and dry ice specifications to meet the needs of everything from small-scale facilities to large-scale dry ice production lines.

Dry Ice Block Machine Production Process
The dry ice block machine operates in a fully automatic, continuous production mode. The entire block-forming process requires no manual intervention and is completed in the following five steps:
- Liquid CO₂ feeding: liquid CO₂ is delivered into the high-pressure compression chamber through a dedicated pipeline.
- High-pressure compression: the hydraulic system continuously compresses the liquid CO₂ to increase the density of the dry ice.
- Heat exchange cooling: the compressed CO₂ passes through the heat exchange system and is cooled to the critical temperature of -78.5°C.
- Pressure release & block formation: after pressure is released, the liquid CO₂ rapidly solidifies into high-density dry ice blocks.
- Automatic demolding & discharge: the finished dry ice blocks are automatically ejected for manual collection or connection to conveying and storage systems.
